Gambling becomes a problem when it starts affecting your life. Some things to watch for:
- —Spending more than you planned, or more than you can afford
- —Betting to try and win back what you've lost
- —Lying to people about how much you bet
- —Borrowing money or going into debt to gamble
- —Feeling anxious or irritable when you try to stop
- —Gambling to escape stress or other problems
- —Neglecting work, family, or things you used to enjoy
If any of this sounds familiar, talking to someone can help. The number again is 1800 858 858.
You must be 18 or older to gamble in Australia
It's illegal to open a betting account or place a bet if you're under 18.
