Angel Capital resumes this Saturday, August 8 in the 1200m Group 2 Missile Stakes at Royal Randwick and word out of the stable is that the five year old is flying and should win well.
The Chris Waller trained sprinter who is owned by Yulong heads the market at $2.70. Gangsta Granny is next best at $3.70 with Ninja at $3.90 and Napoleonic at $6.00 rounding out the main chances. The rest of the field, including Midnight Dynamite, Way To The Stars, Fully Lit and Aviatress fills out a compact but competitive line up.
Today's mail from the stable lines up with what the market is saying. Angel Capital has trained on well through the winter and is ready to strike early in his spring campaign. Waller himself has echoed that sentiment publicly, telling us the horse has come back in great shape both physically and mentally and that he sees no reason the horse can't keep racing on for another season.
This will be the opening stakes assignment of the Sydney season for Angel Capital who arrives off a string of solid placings at the top level, including a runner up finish to Jigsaw in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in March. He remains without an elusive Group 1 win and connections see this campaign built around Yulong's plans to eventually stand him at stud as a genuine shot at breaking through.
Waller has mapped out the run deliberately. The Missile Stakes is designed to get Angel Capital fighting fit ahead of a second up tilt at a Group 1 with the Memsie Stakes or the Winx Stakes both under consideration.
His main danger on paper is Napoleonic resuming for trainers John O'Shea and Tom Charlton off the back of two sharp barrier trials and a placing in the Doomben 10,000. Gangsta Granny and Ninja, second and third in the market, are also expected to play spoiler in their own returns this campaign.
With the market, the trainer and the stable all pointing the same way, Angel Capital heads to Randwick as the horse to beat in Saturday's Missile Stakes.
