Ladies and gentlemen, equine and wagering enthusiasts, we're heading to Ballarat for today's Lay of the Day and I reckon the market has got this one all wrong. Wazing is way too short after just one career win, and I'm lining up against the favourite in Race 6.
One Win Wonder Facing The Class Test
Bloody hell punters, this horse has had ONE start at the races. Won a maiden at this track 16 days ago and now the market has installed it as favourite stepping straight into BM62 company. That's a significant class rise and the reality is we have no idea how Wazing handles proper competition.
Sure, it won its maiden, but let's not get carried away. Before that it was running around in jumpouts, finishing second three times. Jerome Hunter has done a good job getting a win on the board, but this is a different kettle of fish entirely. You're stepping from maiden company straight into benchmark 62 grade, and the market is treating this horse like it's a proven commodity. It's not.
The pace map shows limited speed in this race, which doesn't help a horse that needs to prove it can settle and find when it matters. I reckon Aqueduct at better odds is a far more reliable option here, a horse that's actually proven it can win at this level. Yolo is another with form credentials that stack up much better than a single maiden win.
I'd be shocked if Wazing handles this class jump at its second career start. The favourite tag is a gift for punters willing to lay it.
The Verdict
One career start, one maiden win, now facing BM62 horses. The market has overreacted to that Ballarat maiden victory and I'm happy to take them on. Aqueduct and Yolo both look like better winning chances with proven form at this grade. This favourite is vulnerable and I'm laying it with confidence.
Fire up punters, let's go.
